Things to Consider in Choosing to Play the Alto Saxophone

 

Below are some factors one should consider when choosing the alto saxophone.  While it is not mandatory that a student wishing to play the alto sax possess each characteristic listed, the chance for success will be greatly increased if a number of these factors are present.


Hands are large enough to reach all of the keys

Straight teeth (students with an over bite can have problems forming the proper embouchure for saxophone)

Small motor coordination is very important

Soft Cleaning Cloth

Cork Grease

Cleaning Swab

Neck Strap

Reed Guard

Five size 2 1/2 Reeds (Rico Royal or Medium Soft La Voz)

David Hite Premier Mouthpiece (Make sure you ask for this when you rent your instrument)
